Shopping cart safety is mostly a matter of
common sense.
The recommendations of many safety experts are:
1. Don't let your child stand in shopping carts.
2. Use a restraint to keep your child seated.
3. Don't let your child ride on the outside of
the cart.
4. Don't let your child push the shopping cart.
5. Always stay close to the shopping cart.
I know it is easier said than done, but there
are a few things you can do. First start your children off right.
Condition them as soon as possible about what they can and can not do
in a shopping cart. A good example of conditioning is our car seat
belts. Until I was 20 there were no seat belts in cars. Sometimes I
forget to buckle up, but that is the first thing my grand kids do
because from the time they were born, we made sure they buckled up.
Now they let me know if I'm not buckle up.
When should you start using a shopping cart
safety seat ? If the seat you select has a wide belt that will secure
your baby snuggly, we suggest that if you can hold your child upright
and not have to support the head (5 to 6 months old) its time to
start using shopping cart seat that will hold the baby in an upright
position and give side protection.
Because we now think "Shopping cart
safety" it seems that every time we go shopping we notice
dangerous activity by both children and parents. The major reason we
developed Buggy Buddy for our grandson is while shopping with his
sister, we turned away for just a few seconds and she did a nose dive
from the shopping cart. Luckily she received only a busted lip.
The first thing parents must do is learn what
to do and what not to do, then teach their children. |
